Richard (Chad) M. Haydel, Jr., M.H.A., Chief Executive Officer

Richard M. Haydel, J.R., M.H.A.  is a founding member and chief executive officer of Haydel Memorial Hospice.  He has a combined 18 years of clinical and healthcare management experience.  Prior to the hospice venture, Mr. Haydel has most recently co-developed assisted living and senior care properties in Louisiana and Mississippi. He is an associate of Schonberg & Associates, LLC, the management firm which owns and operates The Suites at Sugarmill Point (Houma, LA) and Alden Pointe (Hattiesburg, MS).  In 1999, he co-founded Monier, Haydel, & Associates, L.L.C., a health care operational and administrative consulting firm for large medical practices and clinics throughout Southeast Louisiana.  Currently, Mr. Haydel serves as Practice Administrator for Haydel Medical & Surgical Clinic, a large family medicine and general surgery multi-specialty practice in Houma, Louisiana.  His direct experience includes large group physician practice administration, organizational and strategic planning, business office operations, marketing and public relations, human resource management, physician recruitment and practice expansion, financial  management, and quality improvement.

Mr. Haydel has a Master of Healthcare Administration (M.H.A.) degree from Tulane University School of Public Health and a Bachelor of Science degree in Cardiopulmonary Science from L.S.U. Medical Center at New Orleans.  He is a member of the American Academy of Healthcare Executives, an affiliate of the Medical Group Management Association, a member of both the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization and Louisiana / Mississippi Hospice and Palliative Care Organization. He also serves as a board member for the American Heart Association, the Terrebonne Foundation for the Mentally Disabled, and Maria Immacolata Catholic School Advisory Committee. 

Richard M Haydel, Sr. MD, Medical Director

Richard Michael Haydel, MD (Dicky) graduated from LSU Medical School in New Orleans in 1968.

After serving an internship at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, he was drafted into the army and was sent to Vietnam from 1969-1970.  Upon return he spent one year stationed in San Antonio, Texas and then moved back to Houma in 1971 when he began his private practice with his father and brother.

In addition to a very busy practice, Dicky has involved himself in the community, his childrens’ schools and his church.

He has been a volunteer Physician doing free Physical exams for the four parish high schools for his entire medical career. He serves as coordinator of that service.
For almost 40 years, Dicky has served on the faculty of the LSU Medical School Department of Family Practice, acting as mentor to medical students who rotate for one month at a time in and out of his practice.  The students work in the office and follow the physicians around as they make hospital rounds.

He began in 1975, and still serves as coordinator of the American Heart Association Over and Under Tunnel Run, a 5K race to raise funds for the AHA.

An avid LSU Football fan, Dicky is also an active member and officer of the LSU Alumni Association.

David C. Schonberg, Chief Financial Officer 

Following his extensive pursuit of the gold standard in senior care, South Louisiana native David Schonberg and a team of local investors, architects and contractors broke ground on The Suites at Sugar Mill Point in Houma, Louisiana in January 2001. His background in healthcare and assisted living administration, combined with years of research and planning, have yielded the finest level of senior care available in each of the communities served by Schonberg properties. His trademark “neighborhood” concept for varying levels of care represents the highest standards of care and future growth in the industry. Shannon Boudreaux, MSW/GSW, Chief Operating Officer

Shannon Boudreaux brings her extensive experience in social work and elder care to her role as Director of Operations for both Haydel Memorial Hospice and The Suites at Sugar Mill Point Assisted Living Community. In this role she oversees operations, resident/patient care, activities, behavioral services, business development, and business functions for both and manages a staff of 50 to include administrators, nurses and care professionals dedicated to providing the utmost in comfort, care, security, and healthful living.  Prior to her current position, Boudreaux sharpened her senior care expertise in leadership positions with The Suites at Sugar Mill Point Assisted Living Community, where she served as Executive Director during her three year tenure and with Hospice of South Louisiana, where she served as both Administrator and medical social worker during her four year tenure. Boudreaux's distinguished healthcare career also includes experience as medical social worker for Terrebonne General Medical Center and as social worker for Leonard J. Chabert Medical Center.

Born and raised in the New Orleans area and a 12-year resident of Houma, Boudreaux earned a Master of Social Work from Southern University at New Orleans in 1998 and a Bachelor of Science in Social Counseling from Our Lady of Holy Cross College in 1996. Her leadership and skill are further evidenced by her participation in such organizations as the Louisiana Assisted Living Association, the National Association of Social Workers, both the National and the Louisiana/Mississippi Hospice and Palliative Care Organizations, the Women’s Business Alliance, the Professional Referral Organization and the Senior Networking Organization.  She is the current Vice President for the Louisiana Alzheimer’s Association Bayou Region Volunteer Council.

Laurie Theriot, Administrator

Laurie received her Degree of Bachelor of Science Concentration in Family and Consumer Sciences from Nicholls State University in December, 1999.  Her leadership and skills are evidenced by her participation in such organizations as the National and Louisiana/Mississippi Hospice and Palliative Care Organizations, the Women’s Business Alliance, Chamber of Commerce and the Senior Networking Organization.  Theriot’s healthcare career includes experience as Medical Social Service Worker for Terrebonne General Medical Center, Social Service Worker for The Oaks of Houma, and Office Manager leading to an Administrator position at Hospice of South Louisiana.  Mrs. Theriot currently is the Administrator for H.L. Haydel Memorial Hospice.  She manages a staff of 20 employees and volunteers, while overseeing the operations and business functions of the hospice. 

Laurie was born and raised in Houma, Louisiana, and calls this community her home.  Hospice is a calling for her as she has experienced the hospice team with her own family and close friends. 

Debra D. Gorr. RN,BSN - Director of Nursing

Debra, native of Terrebonne Parish, achieved her Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from Nicholls State University.  She has experience as staff nurse and charge nurse in a state facility,  case manager, director of nursing and administrator in hospice care and is currently the Director of Nursing for H.L. Haydel Memorial Hospice managing all medical staff and nurturing the concept of  “family caring for family“.  She participates in the National and Louisiana/Mississippi Hospice and Palliative Care Organizations and is affiliated with members of the oncology nursing society. Her previous memberships in Sigma Theta Tau and Phi Kappa phi established recognition for her leadership abilities as well as being presented with the “Professionalism and Leadership Award”.

Debra is fluent in Cajun French. She was previously employed as teacher for United Methodist Learning Center, employed by Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux and Bayou Catholic and Youth Choir Director are a few past experiences. She has donated many hours of her time and talent to the local musical arts.
She feels Hospice is a ministry and gift - to answer the call is very fulfilling.
